Action 4.5 Develop the Action Plan

Purpose

To finalise the development of the plan that identifies the time lines and the resources necessary to complete the implementation of the changes.

DESIRED OUTCOME

  • Once this step is completed, you will have identified a start and finish date for each of the tasks that are nominated in the action plan and identified any resources that are required, such as training, communication, documentation and agreements to enable the plan to be carried out effectively.

How to do it

Take the improvement actions and the tree diagram developed at step 4.3 and draw up the Gantt Chart to show the relationship between the different tasks and the times required to achieve the result.

The goal is to develop time lines with a start and finish date for each action, rather than a deadline, where everybody leaves things to the last minute before they try to accomplish the result.  Setting start and finish dates helps to avoid slippage in the process and shows where we might be asking people to do too much in a given time span.

You will need to identify who would be responsible for each action and who else will need to be involved at each step.  Take note of any other things that will be needed to complete this step.

In mapping the time lines you may find clashes where the plan needs to be modified because different actions are required to be carried out at the same time and cannot be fully supported.

The result is a plan of action that the team believes is feasible and can be carried out to achieve the gains identified.
